Technical Innovations in Windows Server 2019: A Boost to IT Services
Windows Server 2019, built on the strong foundation of Windows Server 2016, brings numerous innovations in four key themes: Hybrid Cloud, Security, Application Platform, and Hyper-Converged Infrastructure (HCI)[
Windows Admin Center
Windows Admin Center is a browser-based application for managing servers, clusters, hyper-converged infrastructure, and Windows 10 PCs. It allows you to manage servers and clusters running Windows Server 2008 R2 and later.
Desktop Experience
Windows Server 2019, as a Long-Term Servicing Channel (LTSC) release, includes the Desktop Experience. This inclusion provides a choice between Server Core installations or Server with Desktop Experience installations during the setup of the operating system.
System Insights
System Insights is a new feature that brings local predictive analytics capabilities natively to Windows Server. These capabilities analyze system data, such as performance counters and events, enabling you to understand how your servers are functioning and helping to reduce operational expenses associated with reactively managing issues.
Server Core App Compatibility Feature on Demand
The Server Core App Compatibility Feature on Demand (FOD) improves the app compatibility by including a subset of binaries and components from Windows Server with the Desktop Experience, increasing functionality and compatibility without adding the Windows Server Desktop Experience graphical environment itself.
Windows Deployment Services (WDS) Transport Server Role
The Transport Server role, a part of WDS, contains the core networking parts and can be used to create multicast namespaces that transmit data from a standalone server. This role allows you to have a PXE server that enables clients to PXE boot and download your custom setup application.
Remote Desktop Services Integration with Azure AD
Azure AD integration offers various features such as Conditional Access policies, Multifactor Authentication, and Integrated authentication with other SaaS Apps using Azure AD.
Core Network Stack Improvement
Several improvements have been made to the core network stack, such as TCP Fast Open (TFO), Receive Window Autotuning, IPv6, and more.
Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection (ATP)
Windows Defender ATP exposes memory and kernel level attacks and responds by suppressing malicious files and terminating malicious processes. Windows Defender ATP Exploit Guard is a new set of host-intrusion prevention capabilities designed to lock down the device against a wide variety of attack vectors and block behaviors commonly used in malware attacks.
Shielded Virtual Machines Improvements
Shielded virtual machines have been improved with the new fallback HGS and offline mode features. These features allow you to run shielded virtual machines on machines with intermittent connectivity to the Host Guardian Service. Additionally, Windows Server 2019 now supports running Ubuntu, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server inside shielded virtual machines
HTTP/2 for a Faster and Safer Web
HTTP/2 has been improved for an uninterrupted and properly encrypted browsing experience. HTTP/2's server-side cipher suite negotiation has been upgraded for automatic mitigation of connection failures and ease of deployment. The default TCP congestion provider has been changed to Cubic for more throughput.
Data Deduplication
Data Deduplication now supports ReFS and can increase storage efficiency by up to 95% with ReFS.
File Server Resource Manager
The File Server Resource Manager service can now prevent the creation of a change journal on all volumes when the service starts.
To conclude, Windows Server 2019's advanced features have significantly improved the quality, security, and versatility of IT services. From the robust security enhancements to the innovative application platform, the numerous features introduced in this release offer substantial improvements that IT departments can leverage for efficient and effective service delivery.
